Accountant - month-end close (Detroit, MI)

We are growing our team at Greenridge Linden Transit Planning and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. Work is collaborative and map-heavy. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to ridership counts, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around accessibility audits against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with ridership counts. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Detroit, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
