Accountant - month-end close (Des Moines, IA)

Redstone Umber Inspection Services Group tests and certifies buildings, pipelines and equipment around Des Moines, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 23 people based in Des Moines. What you will do • Track costs around test reports against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to scheduling, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements.
