Accountant - month-end close (Des Moines, IA)

Northwind Mill Legal Group provides legal services in Des Moines across employment, housing and small-business law, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 21 people based in Des Moines. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to billing records, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around trust accounts against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with billing records.
