Accountant - month-end close (Chicago, IL)

Amberfield Ember Manufacturing makes precision components in Chicago. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to work orders, and clear open items. • Track costs around machine downtime against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
