Accountant - month-end close (Charleston, SC)

Clearpath Fern Transit Planning plans bus and rail service for cities around Charleston, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. We like people who ride the bus and notice when things do not work. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to ridership counts, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for nine months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Charleston, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
