Accountant - month-end close (Charleston, SC)

Summit Oak Environmental Services collects and processes waste and recycling around Charleston. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a large organisation of about 674 people based in Charleston. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to fleet maintenance, and clear open items. • Track costs around weigh tickets against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Charleston. • We reply to every applicant.
