Accountant - month-end close (Boston, MA)

Bright Oak Transit Planning helps transport agencies around Boston design routes and schedules. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. We like people who ride the bus and notice when things do not work. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around service alerts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to accessibility audits, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with accessibility audits. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Boston. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
