Accountant - month-end close (Birmingham, AL)

Cedar Wren Freight Partners is a Birmingham logistics company with trucks, warehouses and dispatch, and we need an Accountant to lead our month-end close. On-time is the promise and we work hard to keep it. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Birmingham. • We reply to every applicant.
