Accountant - month-end close (Birmingham, AL)

We are growing our team at Harborlight Pine Community Partners and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 79 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to grant reporting, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around client intake against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with grant reporting. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, mornings. • On site in Birmingham, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
