Accountant - month-end close (Baltimore, MD)

Greenridge Beacon Water Authority is a public water utility serving the Baltimore area. We are hiring an Accountant to take on month-end close. You would join a small organisation of about 44 people based in Baltimore. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around billing accounts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to pipe repairs, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with pipe repairs. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Baltimore. • We reply to every applicant.
