Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Virginia Beach, VA)

Northwind Sparrow Arts Center runs a venue and education programmes in Virginia Beach, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. We run on creativity, deadlines and a lot of goodwill. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around exhibitions against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with visitor services. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Virginia Beach, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
