Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Virginia Beach, VA)

We are growing our team at Northwind Nest Financial and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 13 people based in Virginia Beach. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around customer onboarding against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to regulatory reports, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Virginia Beach, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
