Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Virginia Beach, VA)

Northwind River Housing is a nonprofit housing provider in Virginia Beach. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. Collaboration with local agencies is constant. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to maintenance stores, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, mornings. • On site in Virginia Beach, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
