Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Virginia Beach, VA)

Stonegate Vista Water Authority operates treatment plants and pipelines around Virginia Beach. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around meter reading against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to water quality, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Virginia Beach, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We reply to every applicant.
