Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Virginia Beach, VA)

Bright Orchard Freight Group moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Virginia Beach, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around carrier rates against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Virginia Beach. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
