Accountant - grant and fund accounting (San Jose, CA)

Summit North Housing is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on grant and fund accounting for rent assistance, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 119 people based in San Jose. What you will do • Track costs around resident services against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to rent assistance, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in San Jose. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
