Accountant - grant and fund accounting (San Jose, CA)

Fernwood Union Facilities is a facilities company in San Jose with crews on day and night shifts. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. Bilingual teams are common. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around customer sites against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to contractor visits, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with contractor visits. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in San Jose. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
