Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Sacramento, CA)

Highbridge Harbor Freight moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Sacramento, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. On-time is the promise and we work hard to keep it. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around loads and lanes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with carrier rates. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for three months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Sacramento. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
