Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Sacramento, CA)

Nova Sable Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Sacramento. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. We invest in training for new adjusters. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to underwriting files, and clear open items. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Sacramento. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
