Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Richmond, VA)

Highbridge Lakeside Farms is an agricultural business based around Richmond, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Track costs around field records against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to cold storage, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Richmond. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
