Accountant - grant and fund accounting (remote)

We are growing our team at Northwind Iron Insurance Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be grant and fund accounting. We care about how people feel on the worst day of their year. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to claims, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with claims. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, spread across three days. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Des Moines. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
