Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Providence, RI)

Harborlight Yarrow Civic Services works with county and city offices around Providence, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 183 people based in Providence. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to budget submissions, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with budget submissions. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Providence, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
