Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Oakland, CA)

Harborlight Kestrel Financial serves customers across Oakland with accounts, loans and payments. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 37 people based in Oakland. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer onboarding, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around account servicing against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with customer onboarding. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Full-time, on a regular day shift. • On site in Oakland, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
