Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Oakland, CA)

Lumen Ember Learning Group operates schools and learning programmes around Oakland. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Track costs around attendance records against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to student accounts, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with student accounts. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • On site in Oakland. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
