Accountant - grant and fund accounting (New Orleans, LA)

Harborlight Sparrow Environmental Services collects and processes waste and recycling around New Orleans. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 32 people based in New Orleans. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around landfill records against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in New Orleans. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
