Accountant - grant and fund accounting (New Orleans, LA)

Lumen Vale Early Learning runs childcare centres in New Orleans caring for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. Children come first and so does looking after the teachers. What you will do • Track costs around enrolment against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to family communication, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with family communication. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in New Orleans, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
