Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Kansas City, MO)

Northwind Lakeside Freight moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Kansas City, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. Dispatch, drivers and warehouse staff talk to each other constantly. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around loads and lanes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to dock schedules, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Kansas City. • We reply to every applicant.
