Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Houston, TX)

We are growing our team at Fernwood Timber Learning Group and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be grant and fund accounting. Families are partners. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to learning materials, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around student accounts against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with learning materials. • A degree or certificate in accounting.
