Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Hartford, CT)

Amberfield Sable Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Hartford, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Hartford. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to catastrophe response, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with catastrophe response. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Hartford. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
