Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Detroit, MI)

Harborlight Fern Transit Planning · Detroit, MI · part time

Harborlight Fern Transit Planning is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on grant and fund accounting for fare systems, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Detroit. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to fare systems, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Track costs around ridership counts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with fare systems. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Detroit, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
