Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Des Moines, IA)

Redstone Quarry Freight Group is a Des Moines logistics company with trucks, warehouses and dispatch, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. Dispatch, drivers and warehouse staff talk to each other constantly. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around loads and lanes against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, spread across three days. • On site in Des Moines. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
