Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Chicago, IL)

Silverline Lantern Markets is a Chicago retailer with stores, a distribution centre and online ordering, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 64 people based in Chicago. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around pricing against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Chicago. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
