Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Charlotte, NC)

Fernwood Cobalt Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Charlotte. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. Claims teams work together and share what they learn. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer complaints, and clear open items. • Track costs around premium billing against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with customer complaints. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • On site in Charlotte, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
