Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Birmingham, AL)

Nova Willow Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Birmingham. We are hiring an Accountant to take on grant and fund accounting. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Birmingham. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with claims. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 24 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Birmingham. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
