Accountant - grant and fund accounting (Baltimore, MD)

Fernwood Holdings provides independent inspection and testing for industry across Baltimore, and we need an Accountant to lead our grant and fund accounting. You would join a small organisation of about 77 people based in Baltimore. What you will do • Track costs around scheduling against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to field inspections, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with field inspections. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Baltimore. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
