Accountant - fixed assets (remote)

Fernwood Wilder Insurance is an insurance company in Birmingham with claims and service teams. We are hiring an Accountant to take on fixed assets. We care about how people feel on the worst day of their year. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to customer complaints, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around catastrophe response against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 20 hours a week, mornings. • Fully remote, with an occasional day on site in Birmingham. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
