Accountant - fixed assets (Providence, RI)

Ironwood Junction Water Authority supplies drinking water and treats wastewater for Providence and nearby communities. We are hiring an Accountant to take on fixed assets. You would join a large organisation of more than 1,000 people based in Providence. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around pipe repairs against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to meter reading, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with meter reading.
