Accountant - fixed assets (Indianapolis, IN)

Summit Mill Transit Planning is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on fixed assets for service alerts, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. Work is collaborative and map-heavy. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to service alerts, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around ridership counts against budget and explain variances to managers. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 28 hours a week, with flexible days. • On site in Indianapolis, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
