Accountant - fixed assets (Houston, TX)

Northwind Iron Insurance sells home, auto and small-business insurance in Houston. We are hiring an Accountant to take on fixed assets. We care about how people feel on the worst day of their year. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to premium billing, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Houston. • We reply to every applicant.
