Accountant - fixed assets (Hartford, CT)

We are growing our team at Stonegate Haven Insurance and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be fixed assets. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Track costs around claims against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to catastrophe response, and clear open items. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with catastrophe response. Working arrangement • Part-time, about 16 hours a week, afternoons. • On site in Hartford, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
