Accountant - fixed assets (Des Moines, IA)

Fernwood Ashton Facilities cleans and maintains buildings for schools, offices and hospitals around Des Moines. We are hiring an Accountant to take on fixed assets. Clear communication between supervisors and crews matters. What you will do • Track costs around contractor visits against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to work orders, and clear open items. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in Des Moines, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
