Accountant - fixed assets (Des Moines, IA)

We are growing our team at Lumen Loom Insurance and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be fixed assets. We care about how people feel on the worst day of their year. What you will do • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Track costs around policy renewals against budget and explain variances to managers. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • Experience with claims. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for twelve months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in Des Moines. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
