Accountant - fixed assets (Chicago, IL)

Bright Birch Environmental Services collects and processes waste and recycling around Chicago. We are hiring an Accountant to take on fixed assets. Early starts and steady work; we look after our drivers. What you will do • Track costs around fleet maintenance against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to service complaints, and clear open items. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Chicago, with some flexibility after the first few months. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
