Accountant - audit preparation (Wichita, KS)

Fernwood Forge Energy supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses around Wichita. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. We work closely with regulators and communities. What you will do • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to billing disputes, and clear open items. • Track costs around outage response against budget and explain variances to managers. What we are looking for • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • Experience with billing disputes. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Wichita. • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
