Accountant - audit preparation (San Jose, CA)

Fernwood Union Banking Services provides everyday banking and small-business lending around San Jose. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. You would join a small organisation of about 68 people based in San Jose. What you will do • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around card disputes against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to fraud alerts, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Experience with fraud alerts. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with a review at the end and a chance of extension. • On site in San Jose, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
