Accountant - audit preparation (Richmond, VA)

Fernwood Keystone Environmental Services is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on audit preparation for landfill records, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. Early starts and steady work; we look after our drivers. What you will do • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to landfill records, and clear open items. • Track costs around weigh tickets against budget and explain variances to managers. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. What we are looking for • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • On site in Richmond, with some flexibility after the first few months. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
