Accountant - audit preparation (remote)

Summit Meridian Freight moves freight for manufacturers and retailers out of Nashville. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. You would work closely with colleagues in operations, support and management. What you will do • Track costs around dock schedules against budget and explain variances to managers. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Familiarity with audit requirements. Working arrangement • Full-time, Monday to Friday. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Nashville. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
