Accountant - audit preparation (remote)

We are growing our team at Lumen Birch Freight and adding an Accountant whose main responsibility will be audit preparation. Dispatch, drivers and warehouse staff talk to each other constantly. What you will do • Track costs around proof of delivery against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to carrier rates, and clear open items. What we are looking for • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • Experience with carrier rates. • A degree or certificate in accounting. Working arrangement • Contract for four months, with clear deliverables from the first week. • Remote-friendly, with an occasional day on site in Charlotte. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
