Accountant - audit preparation (remote)

Fernwood Ember Markets is a Oakland retailer with stores, a distribution centre and online ordering. We are hiring an Accountant to take on audit preparation. You would join a large organisation of about 963 people, working mostly from home. What you will do • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Build schedules for the annual audit and answer the auditors' questions. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Track costs around shrink and waste against budget and explain variances to managers. • Prepare journal entries and support the month-end close on a fixed calendar. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. Nice to have • Familiarity with audit requirements. • Experience with promotions. Working arrangement • Full-time, with a steady weekday schedule. • Fully remote, with an occasional day on site in Oakland. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
