Accountant - audit preparation (Providence, RI)

Westbrook Ember Housing is looking for an Accountant. The job centres on audit preparation for resident services, and it would suit someone who likes steady, practical work. You would join a small organisation of about 30 people based in Providence. What you will do • Keep the chart of accounts and supporting files tidy so anyone can follow them. • Work with purchasing and operations to fix recurring coding errors. • Review invoices and expense reports for accuracy before payment. • Track costs around rent assistance against budget and explain variances to managers. • Reconcile bank and vendor accounts each month, including anything tied to resident services, and clear open items. What we are looking for • Solid spreadsheet skills and comfort with an ERP or accounting system. • Two or more years of hands-on accounting experience. • A clear, patient way of explaining numbers to non-accountants. • Careful attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work. Nice to have • A degree or certificate in accounting. • Experience with resident services. Working arrangement • Contract for eight months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. • On site in Providence. • We will tell you what to expect at each step of the hiring process.
